On World Water Day, mDhil puts together some efficient ways of cutting down water usage. Adopt what suits you best, and play your part in conserving water.

Conservation of water is an essential practice today, whether or not you’re having water troubles at the moment. Simple changes can help save gallons of water a day. So make these changes and help conserve water.

  1.
    • Washing veggies and fruits: Soak fruits and vegetables in a pot of water instead of putting them under running water to wash them.
    • Water plants with water used to wash them: When you’re done with soaking your fruits and veggies, don’t throw the water down the drain, instead use it to water indoor plants.
    • Don’t leave the tap open while brushing your teeth: Well, you’ve heard this one many times before. While brushing your teeth, wet the brush and turn off the tap. If you keep the tap running, you’re bound to waste litres of water in a week. Try and get your family to practice this too.
    • Conserve water while washing dishes: When you wash your dishes put a stopper to the sink drain and fill it with water. When all the dishes have been scrubbed, rinse them of in that water.
    • Get your toilet fixed: If you’re toilet is running, get it fixed. It’s most likely a part of the flapper that’s causing the leak, adjust it; if that doesn’t work, get a plumber.
    • Get any other leakage fixed, too:The same applies to any leaking tap around the house… Make sure you get them fixed. All they might need is a new washer, and that isn’t too expensive. Also, look for any leaking pipes around the house.
    • Soak pans before washing them: Soak pots and pans in water after use. This will save water while you’re trying to scrub off later on.
    • Shorten your shower: Try and reduce your showering time. One way to cut down on your water usage, is to turn of the shower while soaping your body and shampooing your hair. Ask your family to adopt this practice, too. Better still, install water-saving shower-heads. They’ll save you loads of water.
    • Defrost in the microwave: You don’t need to use running water to defrost frozen food. Instead stick it in the microwave for defrosting, or remove your frozen food and leave it out in advance.
    • Use your washing machine only for full loads: If you use a washing machine, only wash full loads of laundry at a time. Also, if you’re shopping for a washing machine, experts are of the opinion that top-loading machines use more water than front-loading ones. So you might be better off buying the latter.
    • Don’t use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket: Every time you flush a cigarette butt, tissue or any other piece of trash, you waster tonnes of water.
    • Rinse your razor in a mug: To rinse off your razor, either fill the sink with a few inches of warm water or a mug. This will rinse your razor just as well as running water, with far less waste of water.
    • Instead of running water, use a broom to clean your driveways and corridors. You can wash them with water every once in while though.
    • Don’t run the hose to wash your car: To clean your car or bike, use a bucket of soapy water. After that’s done, dip a sponge in clean water and wipe off soap. This way you’ll save litres of water.

By AFP Relax News | Yahoo Lifestyle Entertainment – 8 hours ago

(Relaxnews) – World Water Day celebrates its 19th edition on March 22 and will be themed around water and food security.

At a time when drought, food and water scarcity are devastating parts of the world — particularly the developing areas — water advocates are pushing the notion of measuring your water footprint.

Aside from the water used for drinking, cooking, and washing, a major part of a consumer’s water footprint also involves the virtual or embedded water needed to produce a product.

For example, it takes about 1,500 liters of water to produce 1 kg of wheat, and about 10 times more to produce 1 kg of beef. That translates to 7,000 liters of water for steak dinner.

Check out how much water is needed to produce your meal in the list provided below by the United Nations for World Water Day:

Cereal, 1 cup = 130 liters
Orange Juice, 1 cup =170 L
Coffee, 1 cup = 140 L
Cheese, 1 portion = 250 L
Rice, 100 g = 140 L
Milk, 1 glass = 200 L
Tea, 1 cup = 35 L
Sugar, 1 piece = 10.5 L
Lettuce, 1 kg = 130 L
Apple/Pear, 1, 70= L
Chicken meat, 150 g = 615 L
Pork meat, 150 g, 690 L
Egg, 1, 135 L
Banana, 1, 70 L
Olives, 100 g = 250 L
Oats, 100g = 237 L
Onions, 100g = 17 L
Soybeans, 100g, = 275 L
Pineapple, 100g = 42 L
Chocolate, 100g = 2,400 L
Cucumber, 100 g = 24 L
Grapes, 100 g = 45.5 L
Lemon, 100 g = 34 L
Margarita Pizza = 1,216 L
Hamburger = 2,400 L

Master Hilarion’s Weekly Message – September 12-19, 2010

Posted by Admin on September 13, 2010

Master Hilarion

Ascended Master

Beloved Ones,

Man

y of you are now beginning to feel joy in your daily lives again. This is a sign that you have passed through the ‘dark night of the Soul’ in whatever form it took as karma to be acknowledged, released, transmuted and cleared and are now coming into completion with this process of Ascension. It means your test of faith was met with success and an Initiation into a higher consciousness is now coming to pass.

You it is, who have volunteered to be here in this present moment, successfully navigating the Cosmic currents and radiating those into the core of the Earth to be used for the Highest and Greatest Good of all. As you radiate this Cosmic Light, the effects ripple outward from your Being and make a deep impact upon the energy fields of others and these others then Awaken to many truths and revelations that were available to them before but which they did not understand or comprehend or even discern as important to them. This is now changing, Dear Ones, for the required number of Souls who are Awakened or are Awakening has reached critical mass.

Things upon your World will begin to move much more quickly now and whereas before you felt as though you were walking in molasses and feeling stagnation, you will now find that events will begin to transpire with a rapidity that might at times take your breath away. You are all ready now for the next step and this will become clear to you in your personal lives and you will begin to take action as you follow the dictates of your heart and your inner guidance. You will start manifesting much more easily now that which you have been affirming and it may come so quickly that you may not recognize it has manifested for you, so we ask you all to be aware in the days ahead that your every thought, word, and deed has an impact upon your World.

This is why we have counselled you to create more peace, harmony and joy in your daily living and to connect with the elements of Nature, for this is tremendously helpful in clearing your energies and holding your Light steady. When you sit quietly, and hear only the water lapping on the shores of a lake and listen to the seagulls or watch their antics come feeding time, you are connecting with All That Is and even if just for five minutes, this will restore your energy fields to optimum levels. This will become a more and more important practice for you to use and remember. Never forget that Creator manifests in and through Nature and is not distorted but remains pure as the Source.

No matter what transpires in your personal lives, realize that you have always had within you, all that you need and desire, and all answers come more easily to you as you practice “being in the flow”.  Begin to discern your patterns and how they cycle in your interactions with others and how this affects the whole and begin to make those changes  which will make you more the Master of your life. You are creating new patterns of Being on every level now and we of the Higher realms draw closer to you each day.

You are each deeply and unconditionally loved and we ask that you extend this by passing it forward.

Until next week….

I AM Hilarion

UT Researchers Discover Water on the Moon is Widespread, Similar to Earth’s

Posted by Admin on July 22, 2010

KNOXVILLE — Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, are once again turning what scientists thought they knew about the moon on its head.

Thin slice of lunar basalt with a petrographic (geologic) microscope in plane-polarized light.Last fall, researchers, including Larry Taylor, a distinguished professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, discovered “lunar dew” on the moon’s surface — absorbed “water” in the uppermost layers of lunar soil. This discovery of water debunked beliefs held since the return of the first Apollo rocks that the moon was bone-dry.

Now, scientists, including Taylor and Yang Liu, research assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, have discovered that water on the moon is more widespread — on the outside and inside of the moon — with some similarities to water in volcanic systems on Earth.

Their research will be featured in the article, “Lunar Apatite with Terrestrial Volatile Abundances” in the July 22 edition of the scientific journal, Nature.

Unlike lunar dew which is believed to come from an outside source such as solar wind which brings hydrogen into contact with the Moon’s oxygen, the water discovered by Taylor and Liu is internal, arising from an entirely different origin. How it got there is not yet known. The water may have been added by impacting comets, which contain ice, during or after the formation of the moon and Earth.

Thin slice of lunar basalt with a petrographic (geologic) microscope. This is the same view with crossed polarizers, revealing the complicated chemistry of the lunar minerals. The existence of volcanoes on the moon more than 4 billion years ago gave the researchers a clue that water might exist inside the body, since the dynamics of volcanoes on Earth are mostly driven by water. Therefore, the scientists made their novel discovery by examining a lunar basalt brought back from the 1971 Apollo 14 mission. Using secondary ion mass spectrometry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., scientists determined volatile elements in a calcium phosphate mineral are very similar in the same mineral found on Earth.

The scientists said this provides “robust evidence for the presence of water in the interior of the moon from where some lunar rocks were derived. This demonstrates a closer chemical and geologic relationship between the Earth and moon than previously known. We must now re-evaluate the volatile inventories of the moon, relative to the Earth.”

The finding of volatiles on the moon has deep implications for how it, and the Earth, formed. It is generally believed that the moon was created when the early Earth was hit by a Mars-sized proto-planet called Theia, melting and vaporizing itself and a large chunk of the Earth. The cloud of particles created by the impact later congealed to form the moon, which supposedly was devoid of highly volatile elements such as hydrogen and chlorine. However, the researchers’ discovery of these volatiles challenges this theory.

“If water in the Moon was residue water kept during the giant impact, it is surprising that water survived the impact at all because less volatile elements, such as sodium and potassium, are strongly depleted. The details of the impact theory need to be re-examined,” Liu said.

The discovery of abundant and ubiquitous water on the moon could mean a human settlement on the moon is not so far-fetched. Currently, the endeavour would be very expensive. For example, it costs $25,000 to take one pint of water to the moon. However, if scientists devise processes to easily recover this water from the lunar rocks for drinking water and fuel, a human settlement is not out of reach.

“Now we have ready sources of water that can be consumed by plants and humans but also electrolyzed into liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to develop rocket fuel,” Taylor said. “Until the recent discovery of water in and on the moon, it was going to be a very energy-intensive endeavor to separate these elements from the lunar rocks and soil.”

Taylor and Liu collaborated with George Rossman, Yunbin Guan, John Eiler and Edward Stolper at CalTech, as well as Jeremy Boyce at CalTech and the University of California, Los Angeles. Their research was funded by NASA Cosmochemistry, the National Science Foundation and the Moore Foundation for Support of the Caltech Microanalysis Center.
